Sound, Music, QFF and 2020.

One of the privileges of working on our Peter Strickland retrospective and dossier was working with some of our favourite musicians and writers on sound—Drew Daniel, David Toop and Lawrence English—all of whom released blindingly good albums this year.

Drew Daniel as The Soft Pink Truth with Shall We Go On Sinning So that Grace May Increase. Wilfully beautiful and collaborative resistance music.

David Toop with Apparition Paintings, and Field Recordings and Fox Spirits. Sonic collages and a meta look at field recordings and the memories of interviews.

And Lawrence English with Lassitude. A process driven study of the pipe organ at Brisbane’s Old Museum. It was particularly great to experience his performance of this work at the Brisbane Festival as our first post-lockdown concert.
